Update From The Office Number 1

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Let's see how this plays out.  Since my office network blocks blogger.com, I haven't been able to post from work ever (except for during the typhoon, when I brought my own computer in).  When I have downtime at work, I'll try and put some short posts up about what kind of lessons I'm doing (if they're at all interesting), random observations, and hopefully a piece of Engrish.

Weather: Wet, wet, wet.  Not too cold, but just damp all around.  The amount of precipitation here is ludicrous, although it has made some almost neon green spring vegetation possible.

Recent interesting lesson: Teaching the kids "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and having them write new words for Calvin and Hobbes strips.  "Country Roads" is really famous here, and the kids do pretty well with the chorus, despite difficulties with talking about all the heavy "Country Loads" that are taking them home.  Filling in new comic strip words is a different story--the responses range from great, funny English to blank stares to pathetic/hilarious attempts to curse ("Oh Sit!").

Engrish: From C&H activity-- "juice ketchup meat wears...OK. I'm ready to go" "Oh! My Family!! Persistent!!" "Oh my gut!" (Oh my God)
