Crazy Food For Thought

As soon as I get pictures of my purification ritual last week from a friend I will post them here. I was also in the paper for that and I'll take a picture of the clipping and see if it shows up ok. I know I've been erratic with the posting, but be assured that I greatly appreciate those of you who still check the blog. Even with all the magic of this here Internet, I find it all to easy to lose a sense of connectedness with home.
So check this out.
No, really, make sure you click that link and read down it a bit. That picture does no justice to how monstrous oarfish look, so here:
Happy nightmares. You can google away, they're pretty fascinating. So there are essentially sea dragons washing up on the beaches near me (in case you didn't catch it, the article mentions Ishikawa Prefecture) that supposedly warn of a major earthquake. Stellar.
Poking around with the oarfish story I came across the Tokai Earthquake. Very similar to the feared Big One in the Northwest, the Tokai Earthquake is a major quake that has hit southwest of Tokyo quasi-regularly at intervals of 110 years give or take 33 years. We're currently at 156 years since the last one.
Now let me first say that I'm in no danger where I live. I'm on the other side of the country, and Ishikawa is not a quake-prone area. Still, if and when the Tokai hits it will bring Japan to a standstill. There is a hugely complex system in place in event of the quake, and they're trying to predict it as much as possible. This site is where they'd post the warnings.
Sea dragons and earthquakes and a lack of blog posts. The End Times, my friends....

I will indeed have nightmares about that Oarfish!! Can you imagine meeting one of those underwater? Eep!
Also, thank you so much for your help with the interview. Mine was actually a piece of cake! The whole panel liked me from the very beginning, and it felt a lot more like chatting about my future than a formal interview. Your e-mail really helped me get in the right mindset about it, so thank you for that. Hopefully I'll be joining you in Japan this summer! Now it's just the waiting game, which blows.
Best of luck! Don't let the oarfish bite.
